SAW Video is proud to present the work of award-winning Montréal filmmaker Kara Blake, whose highly imaginative films explore her passion for music through various types of animation and visual spectacle. The filmmaker will be in attendance to introduce her new documentary The Delian Mode, which explores the life and work of Delia Derbyshire, an early pioneer of electronic music at the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop and co-creator of the Doctor Who theme music. The Delian Mode was the winner of the 2009 Genie Award for Best Short Documentary and the 2009 Hot Docs Award for Best Short Documentary. The Delian Mode will be preceded by a selection of Blake’s short experimental films and music videos. Blake will also give a special masterclass that will focus on the making of The Delian Mode and documentary production in general. In this masterclass, Blake will share insights with participants on obtaining interviews, finding archival footage, obtaining permission to use it, and working with both family estates and large agencies like the BBC.
