By popular demand, SAW Video's classic Introduction to MiniDV Video Production workshop has been expanded to two full days of instruction!

This two-day workshop teaches the basics of camera, audio and lighting through hands on training.

On the first day of the workshop, participants will receive basic instruction on all three of SAW Video's prime 3-chip MiniDV cameras -- the Canon XL1, Panasonic AG-DVX100 and the Sony PD-150. Participants will be introduced to three point lighting and dealing with power on location. A variety of mics will be used and their applications will be discussed.

Day two of the workshop provides the added opportunity for more hands on time and instruction. Shooting exercises will be indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) simulating varying conditions and situations. The second day of the workshop will focus exclusively on the Sony PD-150.

Ray Hagel has been a member of SAW Video since the mid-80's. He has worked in independent video production for twenty years, as a director, d.o.p., and is most known for his work on The Tom Green Show. Ray has extensive experience as an instructor and has taught production workshops for SAW Video and the National Screen Institute.

Real or imagined?

Seeking submissions for short, original media based works that conceptualize the supernatural genres - uncanny, marvelous and fantastic. Formats can include super 8, 16mm, video, podcasts, interactive websites, power point, CD-Roms, and multi-media (i.e. narrative/film) performances. Please keep the length of your work under five minutes.

Submission Deadline: before September 15th, 2006

COLLECTIONS MANAGER

The Ottawa Art Gallery is seeking a professional to oversee the collections
management and registration activities pertaining to exhibitions, loans and
the Gallery's permanent collections. Responsibilities include the care of
the collections, comprising the Firestone Collection of Canadian and OAG's
Contemporary Collection (some 1,850 works in total); coordination and
implementation of activities relating to short- and long-range planning;
development and implementation of professional policies, procedures and
practises; development and management of the collections information system;
overseeing incoming and outgoing loans.

Qualifications: University or college degree in art history, museum studies
or related field, with a minimum of three years experience in collections
management, registration or conservation functions in a public gallery or
art museum. The position requires knowledge of the range of issues involved
in the management of art, and familiarity with information management
systems; initiative, judgment and the ability to function as part of a team
in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment. Planning, decision-making skills
and the ability to understand and balance the big picture with the
implementation of details are key attributes. Good communications skills and
the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
staff, professional colleagues and volunteers are essential. The ability to
perform physically demanding activities is required. The ability to work in
both official languages is an asset

Salary Range: $36,000 – $48,000 plus benefits package.

Job Posting: Public Programs Manager

Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art is seeking a part-time employee for the new position of Public Programs Manager.

Founded in 1999 and based in Toronto, Prefix is a registered charitable organization that fosters the appreciation and understanding of contemporary photo, media and digital art. Internationally recognized for the publication of Prefix Photo magazine, the organization also mounts exhibitions in its visual, audio and surround art galleries, circulates traveling shows, maintains a public reference library, publishes books, and presents a broad range of public programs, including an annual speakers series. With its recently renovated facility in the heart of Toronto's arts community at 401 Richmond West, Prefix provides its staff with the opportunity to participate in an exciting, growing organization in a dynamic arts environment.

The Public Programs Manager is responsible for two key aspects of the organization's activities. The first area consists of the administration and coordination of all public programs, such as the speaker series and reference library, and the development and implementation of related components, such as audience development and volunteer mentorship. The second area is the production management of magazine and book publishing, including processing submissions and liaising with the scanning bureau, printer and bindery. Applicants with education or experience in only one of these areas are nonetheless encouraged to apply, as Prefix will provide training to the successful candidate, as needed. The Public Programs Manager works with the Operations Manager and the Circulation Manager, and reports to the Director.

The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:
- superior planning and organizational skills
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- computer literacy (MAC environment)
- motivated, outgoing and self-directed
- ability to work cooperatively in an open-concept office
- responsible and reliable

Additional assets include:
- education and/or experience in print production management, program development, marketing and communication, or arts administration
- knowledge of contemporary photography, media and digital arts
- fluency in French

The Public Programs Manager is a part-time employee with a one-year renewable contract. The position requires 24 hours per week, with occasional evenings and Saturdays. The starting salary is $18,000 per annum, with professional development opportunities.
