IN TENTS CITY (TORONTO)
goback

Deadline: August 3, 2006

Duration: August 14 -20th 2006, 9 pm - 12:00 am
Location: The 952 Queen St. West Courtyard, Toronto (Through the entrance to Edward Day Gallery and MOCCA)

The TRANSMISSION COMMISSION presents:
IN TENTS CITY   An International Arts Initiative on AIDS sponsored by the World AIDS Conference in Toronto, 2006 Host: AIDS2006 - XVI International AIDS Conference and supported by The Edward Day Gallery, the MOCCA, Bert Shmidt & Toronto Arts Council

The members of The Transmission Commission Collective are active participants in local, national, and international art practices. We collectively feel a responsibility to create an exhibition that responds to the current AIDS crisis. As direct witnesses to the ravages of this disease in the 1980's and 1990's, we recognize the changing climate that has moved from the early activism of Act Up and Gran Fury to the current catastrophe in developing countries devastated by AIDS. This arts initiative combines local activism with a national and international call to end the complacency toward AIDS demonstrated by the majority of the world.  Our desire is to create a political arena that represents a collective voice culled from individual _expression_.

In Tents City will utilize imagery culled from an international call for work. The submitted artwork will be projected at night onto tent walls installed in the 952 Courtyard.  Transmission Commission views this outdoor installation as an iconic response to what our community has gained and lost, as well as a visual representation of our collective rage.  We invite artists and non-artists alike to submit an image or short video that responds to the current AIDS crisis.

Submission Guidelines
Optional Media are digital images or video format.
  • Jpegs: RGB colour, pixel size not to be more than 1000 in any direction--final resolution will be presented at 720 x 540 (at 72 dpi). Send Jpegs thetransmissioncommission@gmail.com
