The National Indigenous Media Arts Coalition is seeking your Indigenous members! The National Indigenous Media Arts Coalition is a Region within the Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA), and is comprised of Aboriginal media artists and organizations. NIMAC assists in the development of Indigenous run media arts organizations and collectives across Canada. With support from the IMAA, NIMAC continues to advocate the needs of aboriginal media centres to funders and organizations across the country. The National Indigenous Media Arts Coalition (NIMAC) is now 5 years old. NIMAC’s vision and activities can be seen through three core activities: Indigenous community development, communications and networking. Outreach to diverse groups with a focus on Canada’s Indigenous communities has resulted in an expanded membership that includes a growing number of cultural festivals, collectives, new practices, and Indigenous media artists and organizations. A challenge to IMAA member organizations was made at the Murder City Media City conference and AGM held in Winnipeg in September 2006. As NIMAC looks to the future, our goal is to increase participation of Indigenous media/film members from your organization. NIMAC is developing three working Committees for the core activities and assistance to develop a mentorship program between its members. Now we need your assistance. As a region of IMAA, NIMAC is requesting contact information of your Indigenous members. While the IMAA’s membership is structured for organizational memberships, it has actively welcomed individual members to be a part of NIMAC. Please forward contact information to Liz Barron, Project Coordinator with NIMAC to lbarron@nationalimac.org. For additional information please contact Liz at 204.788.4301. Thanks for your help!
