In 2006, SAW Video kicked off its 25th Anniversary celebrations with an exciting event entitled Video Arcade. Participants were invited to play video games from the past, including Ms. Pacman, Pong, Frogger and Space Invaders. While competing for prizes, participants also listened to music by a variety of DJs and bid on items for the silent auction. This September, SAW Video plans to hold a second edition of its popular fundraiser, and it is seeking one ambitious individual to help with the event’s coordination. The volunteer will help to secure the participation of various community organizations and businesses. The position is a great opportunity for an individual looking to work in the non-profit sector, and for someone interested in increasing their knowledge of Ottawa’s arts community. Contract Duration: 3 months Hours
of work: 7 hours per week Qualifications: The selected individual will have: · Excellent planning and organizational skills; · Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ·

Thursday/jeudi
May 30 mai, 19:00 The funny and heartbreaking OFF THE MAP, directed with a poet’s eye and a keen ear for nuance by Campbell Scott, resonates with something rare in today’s movies: simplicity. It respects the New Mexico desert setting where Charley, his wife, Arlene, and their eleven-year-old daughter, Bo, have decided to make their home away from modern conveniences like electricity and running water. And the deft script, which Joan Ackermann adapted from her play, never exploits Charley’s untreated depression, Arlene’s earth-mother tendency to garden in the nude or Bo’s frustration about a life without friends. The entrance of an IRS man into this fragile Garden of Eden allows Scott to observe changes, subtle and seismic, in this maverick family. Joan Allen and Sam Elliott perform brialliantly. Preceded by Ottawa filmmaker Ed Folger’s short drama, THE SOUL OF WIT (Canada 2007, 10 minutes.), based loosely on Shakespeare’s HAMLET. NOTE: Tickets are $10 ($6 for CFI members) and will be available at the box office on the evening of the event. RECEPTION TO FOLLOW. SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: Ed Folger, Director of THE SOUL OF WIT. ‘Mad About the Arts’ organizes or sponsors cultural events that aim to increase public awareness about mental health issues and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. Current MAA partners include the Canadian Mental Health Association — Ottawa Branch, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario — Ottawa Branch, the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group and the Community Arts Program — City of Ottawa. 48 with 24 That’s 48 minutes with the Director and Executive Producer of one of today’s most successful television dramas “24” ! Ottawa-Gatineau Film & Television (OGFT) is pleased to announce the launch of its Luncheon Speaker Series, starting with Emmy award-winning director and Executive Producer of 24, Jon Cassar, on Thursday June 7th, 2007. Jon is a native of the Ottawa-Gatineau region and a graduate of Algonquin College. He will discuss his careerpath and his various production experiences in major centers such as Toronto, Vancouver and L.A. and will relate them back to the Ottawa-Gatineau industry. A question-and-answer period will follow. Jon spent his formative professional years in Ottawa- Gatineau and had a full background working as a Director of Photography, camera operator and steadicam operator on over 35 movies, and 70 television shows, videos and spots before becoming a director. Jon Cassar is in his seventh season as the Director/Executive Producer of Fox’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning drama “24”. In this capacity he directs six to 10 episodes each season while helping to oversee other production-oriented elements of all the show’s 24 episodes. Mr. Cassar’s strengths in orchestrating action sequences paired with directing dramatic scenes serve him well in “24’s” high action and intense drama format. Before
working on “24”, Mr. Cassar shot the television pilots and
several season episodes of the popular La Femme Nikita, Mutant X, Sheena:
Queen of the Jungle and Queen of Swords. Other directing credits include
episodes of popular TV shows such as Profiler, Due South, Dead Zone,
Forever Knight, Street Time, and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. Mr.
Cassar received dual Emmys for directing 24 (2006) and producing 24
(2006) for its Fifth Season. As a director, Mr. Cassar received a DGA
award (2006) for 24. He has been nominated for Canada’s Gemini
Award for directing La Femme Nikita. Also, Mr. Cassar is the author
of “24: Behind the Scenes” a photography book of 24 the
