THE GUANTANAMO PROJECT

The Guantánamo Project

The Guantánamo Project is an interactive website that links and engages Canadian artists and scholars to produce work on, and speak out against, the erosion of human rights and the gradual removal of our civil liberties as a result of the 'War on Terror'. The GP seeks to counter the prevailing idea that conflict, surveillance, and polarized societies are the new reality. This project reclaims the possibility of imagining a just and fair global order. The GP is seeking innovative, inspiring and provocative artwork around the question "What does Guantánamo Mean?" It encourages submissions that approach Guantánamo as place and symbol - from meditations on the "everyday" (personal/political, space, body) to broader themes including human rights, civil liberties and peace in their contemporary and historical dimensions. With these submissions the GP hope to gather a body of work that both addresses the disturbing implications of Guantánamo and what it stands for, and seeks alternatives to the current reality. The GP accepts works from all artistic practices including video / film, visual arts, installations, music, poetry, prose, collage, or anything else you consider art. However, the submission must be formatted to be posted on a website. (For visual art and installations please send digital photos. Works are also accepted in MP3 format).

Call for Carbon Neutral Films! (Toronto) October 24-28, 2007

The Planet in Focus International Environmental Film & Video Festival announces a special call for submissions to Carbon Neutral films in partnership with The Greencode Project! Film productions are huge contributors to climate change through the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs), such as carbon dioxide from electricity required for lights, cameras and audio to craft services to transportation to promotional services releases GHGs into our atmosphere. For the first time, Planet in Focus wishes to recognize films that have chosen to go carbon neutral, make significant strides by choosing suppliers that offer less energy intensive options or have offset some or all of its carbon emissions through purchased carbon credits from energy efficient projects. We
all must take personal responsibility for our carbon emissions and strive to make every effort possible to reduce our carbon footprint. Because it is impossible to reduce our carbon emissions to zero, going carbon neutral by purchasing carbon offsets is a realistic and affordable way to limit emissions. Planet in Focus, like a growing number of organizations and businesses, is of the belief
that carbon neutral productions can become standard practice in the movie making process and we want to support filmmakers who are at the forefront of this new and vital practice. For more information on how you can reduce your carbon footprint on your next production, please visit Greencode Project's website.

CineVic would like to present a retrospective of
the Super 8 genre from its inception, illustrating how Super 8 revolutionized filmmaking by putting the tools of cinematic production in the hands of everyday people, through virtual abandonment with the appearance of video, until the current renaissance which Super 8 is experiencing with a new generation of filmmakers seeking the aesthetics and accessibility of this medium and
technological advances in film. The objectives are to explore influence of this technology on the aesthetics of filmmaking, to create more opportunities for the art of short form and small-gauge film to be seen, and to encourage the practice of filmmaking - on film!

2008 Mois Multi Festival (Quebec)
The Mois Multi is an annual festival, held each February in the Salle Multi and the Studio d'Essai at Méduse (and other venues) in Quebec City. It works to promote local, national and international works, and seeks to increase the visibility and the dissemination of avant-garde media and interdisciplinary arts. Presenting as it does with equal standing, the installations, performances
and presentations that are all characterized by the originality and innovation of their artistic proposals, the Mois Multi is the only event of its kind in Canada. It is one of the rare events to present the media arts that are currently being reinvented by the creative force of the country's artists. The nature of the works presented during this event do not conform to a specific format or
genre, but are instead selected based on the strength of their message, no matter what the form. The protean nature of the selected works is certainly one of the characteristics of the Mois Multi. Recto-Verso is interested in art that can
propose new angles, new approaches, and new connections with its audience. Each edition of the Mois Multi festival offers an impressive and unique program, bringing together a host of works of international standing from the fields of interdisciplinary and electronic arts.
