Movie Day Home Movie Day emphasizes the importance of saving these original films since they are unique cultural documents that encourage the understanding of home movies as valuable records of the everyday experience. Though home movies are generally thought to be the private recordings of family memories, they offer an important glimpse into a side of life that is not often witnessed or captured in mass media. As personal documents, home movies can evoke intensely emotional experiences of seeing and hearing yourself, friends, and relatives from the distant past. Home movies also show how people actually lived at a particular moment in time, providing an insightful social record of a way of life in an unrehearsed and intimate manner. Home movies can also offer the only surviving images of a town, neighbourhood, individual or event, making them important historical documents. Home Movie
Day Ottawa How can
you participate? Not all films can be shown on Home Movie Day for reasons such as physical condition, content, and/or length. Owners of films chosen for the program will be contacted the week of July 23, 2007. What if
you don’t have any home movies? Home Movie
