VIDEO CAMP FOR GIRLS+

Camp registration re-opens May 28th 2019 at 5pm!

Thanks to the continued support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, SAW Video’s Video Camp for Girls+ will provide an opportunity for training in basic video production and video editing for participants aged 13-17. The camp will take place in conjunction with our community partners Girls+ Skate 613 who provide a safe space for aspiring skateboarders to learn how to skate. Under the direction of female instructors and mentors who are professionals in the audio/visual production field, participants will have the opportunity to conceive, shoot, direct, and edit, short videos about skateboarding.

Like skateboarding culture, film and video-making often tend to be male-dominated fields.  This program seeks to encourage young women, girls, femme identified and non-binary youth, to learn about video and to consider it as a potential career choice. Additionally, this program seeks to remove socio-economic barriers to training for young women in the technical fields of video production and to that end, the program will be offered for free and will only involve a small registration charge for each participant.

Limited space available - Maximum 12 participants / Ages 13-17 / Registration Fee: $25

Although registration is open for all young women, girls, femme identified and non-binary youth we encourage youth from diverse or marginalized backgrounds to apply, particularly POC, Indigenous, queer, low-income and or newcomer & immigrant youth.

Past Camps

2018

SAW Video was thrilled to host a screening for our Video Camp for Girls+ 2018. It was a full house for the screening and fun filled evening for instructors Maayke Schurer and Reine Tejares and the young participants of our video production workshop series, their families and friends, SAW Video members and staff, and members of the Girls+ Skate 613 network and the broader Ottawa community

The ten participants of the program were awarded certificates and SAW Video basic memberships. We are thrilled to have welcomed these amazing young emerging filmmakers into our community of media artists!
