This two-day workshop teaches the basics of camera, lighting and audio through hands-on training.  Participants will receive basic instruction on SAW Videos HD Video Cameras, such as the Sony Z90, or the Panasonic AC-160, and they will be taught three-point lighting and introduced to various types of lights, such as LED’s, Fresnel’s, Arri’s, and Kino’s.  A variety of sound recording options will be examined, such as handheld mics, lavalier mics, shotgun mics, digital audio recorders, and their applications will be discussed.  Under the guidance of the instructor, participants will have lots of opportunities to handle equipment to become familiar with it and to practice various setups and shooting exercises simulating varying conditions and situations.

This workshop is a pre-requisite for new filmmakers and new SAW Members wanting to rent out SAW’s equipment.  The safe, proper care and operation of cameras, lights and audio gear will be demonstrated, as well as properly wrapping cables and re-packing equipment.  This workshop is designated as introductory training for media artists as well as artists from other disciplines who would like to explore using video in their work.  It is also open to members of the public wishing to create independent video works.
