This program is geared towards beginner level or first-time filmmakers. It is designed to provide hands-on instruction and experience at each stage of making a video, from pre- to post-production. Participants will be guided by experienced filmmakers as they work in small groups to complete short video projects from start to finish. Topics covered include treatment, scriptwriting, storyboarding, budgeting, location scouting, managing your shoot, technical training on camera, lighting and sound equipment, cinematography, aesthetics of editing and instruction on digital editing with DaVinci Resolve software.  

At the end of the program, participants may retain copies of their final films, and will also be provided with a Video Schoolhouse Certificate marking the completion of the program and confirming the number of hours of video training that they have completed.

Class Payment and Cancellation Policy:  Your enrollment in this course is not guaranteed until payment is received.  The course must be paid in full by the deadline date.  You may cancel your enrollment in the course 5 business days before the first class without charge.  Cancellations made less than 5 business days before the first class will be refunded the full amount of the course, less a $50 cancellation fee.  Cancellations made after the first class will be refunded the tuition less a $50 cancellation fee and the pro-rated portion of the total tuition for however many classes you have attended.  There will be no reimbursements after the third class.  The course is subject to cancellation if there are insufficient registered participants.  We will notify you regarding cancellation at least one week before the first class.  If we cancel the class, you are entitled to a full refund or you may keep credits on your account towards other workshops or equipment rentals.

My name is Aia Raafat, I'm a filmmaker, a movie editor and a graphic designer. I did my master’s in Communications and Media Studies at Ottawa University with a focus on analyzing video content on social media platforms. I am a certified user for Adobe Premiere, Adobe After effects, Adobe Photoshop and Apple FinalcutX.

I worked in post-production for several years and I also led different video production roles by being a part of the creative team at the UNISDR 3rd world conference on DRR - Daytime Ottawa crew at RogerTV cable 22 - DW broadcasting channel in Bonn, Germany - Uottawa Online Hybrid courses project.



Howard Adler holds a bachelor of arts in Indigenous Studies from Trent University, and a master of arts in Canadian Studies from Carleton University. He is the co-founder/director/programmer for the Asinabka Festival, an annual Indigenous film and media arts festival in Ottawa, Canada.  Howard’s film, video and art, have been exhibited in gallery settings, broadcast nationally, and shown extensively at film festivals both in Canada and internationally. He often works as a freelancer or on a contract basis in various capacities, including film and video production, as a university instructor, a guest speaker, a workshop instructor, or leading art making classes for youth.
