Back Story: Video Making Workshop

Kind Space Logo

Back Story takes place in association with Kind Space, an organization that serves LGBTTQ2S+ communities in Ottawa.  Back Story provides an opportunity to amplify the voices of LGBTQ2S+ youth by empowering them to share their stories. This Workshop will offer training in basic video production and video editing for youth participants aged 15-30. Under the direction of LGBTQ2S+ & Queer-friendly Instructors and mentors who are professionals in the audio/visual production field, participants will have the opportunity to conceive, shoot, direct, and edit, short videos. The videos created can be different genres, including documentary, drama, experimental etc., and the participants can keep digital copies of the final edited videos which they can then use in a portfolio, on a resume, submit to a film festival, or to further their own audio/visual skills in an academic setting.

Film and Video-making often tends to be a cis-male-dominated field, and this program seeks to encourage LGBTQ2S+ youth, to learn about film, and to consider it as a potential career choice.  This “Back Story” Filmmaking Workshop also seeks to remove socio-economic barriers to training for LGBTQ2S+ youth in the technical fields of video production, and to that end, the program will be offered for free, with a sliding scale registration fee for each participant.

Registration in the workshop is for the Kind Space community, and Kind Space will be handling registration.
