Penny McCann

Penny McCann has been making films and videos since 1990. Her work, which ranges from dramatic to experimental, has been widely broadcast and exhibited at numerous festivals and galleries nationally and internationally. Over the years, Penny has received numerous grants for her work, most recently from the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Ottawa, and Bravo!FACT. A long-time member of SAW Video, Penny became director in January 2004. In 2007, in recognition of her contribution to the Ottawa media arts community, Penny was awarded the Victor Tolgesy Award for achievement in the arts.

 

Mireille Bourgeois

Bourgeois received a diploma in Photography in 2001 at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. She migrated to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and completed her Bachelor in Fine Art in 2002. Bourgeois was the Programming Coordinator for the Centre for Art Tapes between 2004 and 2007. She has traveled through Europe to conferences and events such as The World Summit on Arts and Culture and the Berlin Biennale and was a panelist for media arts conferences in Canada (Media City/Murder City in Winnipeg, Remote Control, in Fredericton), and received a Masters degree from the Bard College Center for Curatorial Studies in New York (2007-2009). Bourgeois has also independently curated/contributed to programs at the Eastern Edge Art Gallery, The Art Gallery at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, Electric Arts Intermix, Creative Times, Emerson Gallery and for the Canadian Museum of Civilization, as well as published critical writing in Visual Arts News, Creative Times Press, and C-Magazine.

 

Erin Kelly

Erin Kelly has been involved in Ontario's visual and media arts communities for the past nine years. A graduate of Fleming College's Museum Management and Curatorship Program, and a member of the board of Peterborough's Artspace from 2003 to 2004, she went on to work at Galerie SAW Gallery from 2004 to 2006 in the capacity of Communication and Outreach Officer. After acting as SAW Video's Interim Office Coordinator, she transitioned into the role of Administrative Coordinator in April 2007. Erin is responsible for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and the administration of SAW Video's Production Funds.

 

Denise MacDonald

Denise MacDonald has been providing communications expertise for non-profit organizations and small businesses since 2003. From 2007-09 she worked for The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and before that was a freelance editor and writer. She obtained her degree in Political Science in 2002 from Carleton University and studied the fine art of words through Ryerson University's continuing education editing program. When not roaming the woods, roads and deserts of the continent, this Ottawa native participates actively in the vibrant local arts scene and community projects.

 

Ariel Smith

Ariel Smith is an award winning, emerging film and video artist currently residing in Ottawa by way of Vancouver and Montreal. She has been creating independent works for the past 6 years many of which have screened internationally. Ariel's recent works include 1, 2, 3 Knock Up and Saviour Complex.

 

Pixie Cram

Pixie has been involved in the media arts in Ottawa for nearly 10 years, as an artist, administrator, and teacher. Her films and music videos have shown at festivals, galleries, and alternative venues across Canada, the United States, and Russia, including the Reel Dames Film Festival in Montreal, the Dawson City Short Film Festival, the RED Multidisciplinary Festival in Toronto, and the Gimli Film Festival. Her work includes stop animation films and music videos, live soundtrack performances, and narratives. She is very happy to be joining the staff at SAW Video.
