Video Camp for Girls+ is back this July!

Registration opens May 28th, 2019.

SAW Video is very excited to announce that we are partnering again with Girls+ Skate 613 for our Video Camp for Girls+ 2019 edition! The camp will provide an opportunity for training in basic video production and video editing for participants ages 13-17. Under the direction of female instructors and mentors who are professionals in the field of audio/visual production, participants will have the opportunity to develop, shoot, direct, and edit, short videos about skateboarding. The videos can be different genres, including documentary, drama, experimental, or the traditional skateboarding video showing off tricks and techniques. Participants will be provided with digital copies of the final videos, which they can then use in a portfolio, on a resume, submit to a film festival, or to further their own audio/visual skills in an academic setting.

Like skateboarding culture, filmmaking and video production often tend to be male-dominated. This program seeks to encourage young women, girls, and femme identified youth to learn about film and to consider filmmaking as a potential career choice. Video Camp for Girls+ also aims to remove socio-economic barriers to training for young women in the technical fields of video production, and, to that end, the program will be offered for free, and will only charge a small registration fee for each participant. If the fee is a barrier to participation, please do not hesitate to let us know so that we can make an accommodation.

Although registration is open for all young women, girls, and femme identified youth, we encourage youth from diverse or marginalized backgrounds to apply, particularly POC, Indigenous, low-income, or newcomer & immigrant youth.

This project would not be possible without the continued support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
