Knot Project Space is excited to have hosted another screening as part of The Common Cinema, an initiative that has seen the venue operate as a small-scale community movie theatre, which hosted five consecutive evening screening with different partners from November 27th to December 1st.

The Common Cinema: Vol. I

From November 27th – December 1st, 2018, Knot Project Space functioned as The Common Cinema, a small-scale community theatre which presented five consecutive evening screenings, each in collaboration with a different partner organisation: The Transgender Media Portal at Carleton University, Kind Space Ottawa, Cinema Politica, MAX Ottawa and Visual AIDS.

The Public Sphere(s) of Massive Media

Knot Project Space continued its 'Video in the Public Sphere' speaker series with a lecture by Toronto-based artist, educator and researcher Dave Colangelo. A founding member of the Public Visualization Studio, Colangelo’s lecture described, historicized, theorized, and examined various examples of “massive media” - an emerging subset of socio-technical assemblages that include large outdoor projections, programming architectural façades, and urban screens.

Promiscuous Publicness

Knot Project Space launched its speaker series, 'Video in the Public Sphere,' with an opening talk by Berlin-based artist, writer and designer Patricia Reed. Having worked over the summer as Theory Researcher for Public Art Munich, Reed spoke to the underpinnings of this initiative as well as presented a text that she generated in relation to its activities, titled 'Promiscuous Publicness and the Uncommon In-Common.'
