Announcing New Voices

New Voices is a 6-week Video Production Program for newcomer, refugee and first-generation immigrant youth ages 13 to 24 offered in partnership with YOCISO, the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization`s Youth Program. Under the guidance of SAW Video instructors, filmmakers Radamis Zaky and Aia Raafat, the ten participants registered for the program will have the opportunity to conceive, shoot, direct, and edit, short videos about their own experiences as newcomers in Canada. The videos created can be different genres, such as documentary, drama, or experimental.

New Voices seeks to remove socio-economic barriers to training for newcomer, refugee, and immigrant youth in the technical fields of video production and open up new avenues for self-expression for participants. Youth engaged in this program will receive a certificate and have access to SAW Video's new facilities and equipment, as well as have their films screened at an event in the fall. New Voices is generously funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The program is full and no longer accepting new registrations, but we look forward to sharing highlights of this exciting new program engaging immigrant, refugee and newcomer youth as it progresses. A screening of the participants' works will be held this fall.
