Intro to Video Editing with Blender

Image of Blender Software

This 2-day workshop is aimed at filmmakers who are looking for a free alternative to Premiere Pro and/or professional video editing software which doesn't necessarily require a high-end machine to perform well (as does DaVinci Resolve). Blender is a free and open source software package, best known for its 3D modelling and animation capabilities. However, it also incorporates a very respectable video editor whose interface can be configured to resemble that of Premiere Pro.

On day 1 of the workshop, filmmakers will be introduced to the Blender interface and learn how to configure the Video Editing layout to more closely resemble that of other video editing software (e.g. Premiere Pro). They will then learn how to do basic film editing using Blender (importing media, cutting and grouping clips, using markers, adding crossfades, using and animating transforms, and applying colour corrections).

On day 2, participants will learn how to change the speed and pitch of video strips, how to add and animate titles, how to create and use masks, and how to render their final videos. All media will be provided and students will be given plenty of time to experiment with the different techniques as they learn them.
